Sun Ergos
Founded
in 1977, Sun.Ergos, A Company of Theatre and Dance, is one
of Alberta's foremost international touring, performing arts group
having presented its works in seventeen countries on four continents.
Establishing itself as a two-man company, at first the idea was to
overlap theatre and dance pieces. The works became multi-layered
with projections, sound patterns, script, highly selective, authentic
costuming, props and set pieces - but the goal was always the same,
to express common humanity.
There was also a real commitment to young peoples' audiences, and so
the work evolved organically into in depth research of ethnic
traditions, folk-tales and dances. To celebrate the differences and
recognize the similarities among peoples and their cultures became the company's
mandate.
To achieve this, Sun.Ergos has created 47 shows, offers community outreach
programming, residencies, workshop, master classes and professional development. Flexible
and adaptable, the company has performed in every imaginable situation from
television studios and major theatres to bomb shelters in Croatia to court yards
of mosques in Israel, to one-room school houses to major universities. The
company philosophy is to let the Universe take us where we are
wanted, needed, respected, received well as people, and adequately paid to make
our lives possible and our creativity on-going, growing and effectively
entertaining and edifying to peoples of all cultures and backgrounds
