SOUTHERN FRIED JAZZ
BAND

“Jazz is the single art form America has given the world.” That flat-out statement came from band leader Don Edwards….. As a veteran of that milieu, he certainly has a point. The rafters…..rang with the infectious beat of Dixieland classics as his skilled ensemble revived New Orleans, Chicago and Midwestern-spawned numbers. Thanks to Edward’s knowledgeable commentary, ‘Is It True What They Say About Dixie,’ ‘St. James Infirmary’ and Basin Street’s ‘Dark Town Strutters Ball’ spring to vivid life.” Naomi Donson, Art Beat, Englewood, FL
The Southern Fried Jazz Band offers some of the most refreshing and authentic Dixieland jazz music on the scene today! With resumes that date back to Big Band tours and early jazz clubs, the show-wise members of this eight-piece ensemble includes three horns and four rhythm along with female vocals that stir the soul. Trumpet player Don Edwards has an impressive and extensive career that dates back to the Big Band era and includes movies, festivals and backing Dixieland greats like the legendary Louis Armstrong and the World’s Greatest Jazz Band. A master of timing and showmanship, as one fan stated, “Edwards operates his band like a well-oiled machine,” stretching his players beyond their normal limits “on the job.”
Each performance of the Southern Fried Jazz Band evolves into an experience to be remembered long after it has left the stage. Open-ended to some degree, its program always includes a tasty recipe of instrumentals accented with vocals and stirred with lots of seasoning and spontaneity. These ingredients have launched Southern Fried Jazz from the Piedmont foothills of North Carolina into the national spotlight in short order.
“From the opening number, ‘Is It True What They Say About Dixie,” to the closing medley of ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’ and ‘When The Saints Go Marching In,’ the audience was mesmerized. Each member…..had a chance to show off their stuff with various numbers, and the sound filled the entire auditorium….” Jay Stanley, Bioloxi SunHerald, Biloxi, MS
“The band’s enthusiasm, engaging manner and remarkable musicianship made the concert a resounding success. We are still receiving compliments from guests and staff alike about the concert. It was the perfect way to end our season.” Margaret A. McLean, Frick Art & Historical Center, Pittsburgh, PA
“This is more than a great jazz band…. People need to know that these guys are all artists in their own right. They were wonderful!” Monnica Peinado, Everette Civic Music Assn., Everett, WA
“I just returned from the concert Southern Fried Jazz did in Centralia, Washington…..Hope you’ll be back in the northwest next year. It was a fabulous concert. And I’m enjoying the CD as well…..Can you put my name on your mailing list for when the band tours? I’d love to hear them again! Sandy Neal, Lewis County Community Concerts, Centralia, WA
