Founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Ranee Ramaswamy, Ragamala Music and Dance Theater is dedicated to preserving the south Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam while using it as a springboard for innovative choreography, bringing it into conversation with contemporary themes and diverse influences from around the world. Ragamala’s work provides a bridge between cultures both ancient and modern, exploring a unique style of living poetry for the stage. The company has toured extensively nationally and internationally, and offers one of the most respected and sought-after residency programs in the country encouraging young people to explore the arts and culture of India while inspiring them to respect diversity.
