MISTY RIVER - COMPELLING HARMONIC VOICES
“When OREGON ART BEAT broadcast a segment on MISTY RIVER, the response was
amazing. When these four women weave their lovely harmonies, it is spine
tingling. Our phones and web site were jammed with requests to know where they
were playing and how to buy their CDs.”
– Jeff Douglas, Executive Producer, Oregon Art Beat, Oregon Public Broadcasting
(May – 2002)
Since emerging on the Portland acoustic music scene in 1997, the four-woman band
MISTY RIVER has earned an enviable reputation as one of the finest, most
entertaining bands in the Pacific Northwest. MISTY RIVER blends folk, bluegrass,
country, Celtic and original music into a seamless and highly distinctive
Americana sound that has entranced thousands of fans. Whether performing at a
large concert hall or an intimate house concert, MISTY RIVER makes an emotional
connection with its audiences, thoroughly captivating listeners with beautiful
and moving music and a natural, friendly presentation.
Misty River presents an array of songs from little known classics to familiar
folk and bluegrass material to heart warming original songs complete with a true
story attached. Creative and fresh arrangements hold the audiences attention
while anecdotes of touring bring humor and surprise. Beautiful, award-winning
original songs blend naturally with the other genres of music being presented.
One reporter describes the unfolding of the evening saying:
“It’s Friday night at the Elgin Opera House and Misty River takes the stage.
All smiles, four women look out onto a packed house. They have come to share
their unique blend of American folk, bluegrass, Celtic and country music with a
room full of people to whom they are strangers.
In two hours, Carol Harley, Laura Quigley, Chris Kokesh and Dana Abel will be
strangers no more. I’ve always believed the best artists are the most
transparent – those who take the risk of exposing heart and soul through
whatever medium their expression takes shape. Misty River is part of this select
group.
On Friday night, Misty River’s sweet, soul-restoring harmonies rippled through
the Elgin Opera House, washing away my end-of-the-work-week wearies. Leaving
smiles and tapping toes in their wake, the livelier tunes made it hard to sit
still…” – Mardi Ford, The Observer
Misty River offers concert/demonstrations to the schools for students in the
form of a one-time concert usually associated with the day of the concert. K-12.
