Craicmore

"I want to express my appreciation for your wonderful concert. The superb musicianship of Craicmore was thoroughly appreciated by our audience, all of the feedback was positive. From a presenter/booker's point of view I appreciate the ease of booking Craicmore, your willingness to work with me to make the concert happen was really a joy. Craicmore was a huge financial as well as an artistic success. I hope that you will consider a return engagement."
(Mary Tanner, Performing Arts Manager, Lancaster PAC, CA. March 2004)
CRAICMORE, a contemporary, traditional Celtic band rooted in the music of Scotland and Ireland features the critically acclaimed vocals of contralto Nancy Johnston. Her deep rich voice is rare in this genre where melodies are most often sung in the higher, soprano range. Driving rhythms from guitar, bass, Bohdran drum, conga and other percussion, along with high-spirited whistles and pipes, passionately render jigs & reels, the dance music of Ireland. Haunting slow Airs and romantic waltzes transport audiences over the Scottish highlands to the Irish coastlines. Clear vocal harmonies support the songs of love and courting from Celtic lands and rhythmic hardshoe dancing in the Cape Breton tradition further express CRAICMORE’s love of the culture.

- Dirty Linen
"A rich, absorbing listening experience from the get-go, anchored by John MacAdams’ driving guitar and Nancy Johnstons’ lovely, deep alto voice. The band’s beautiful arrangements and sensitive interplay, and MacAdams’ innovative production combine to create an album that’s as contemporary as it is timeless.
- Sing Out!
"Celtic music that touches the heart, mind, and soul. Drawing on Scottish and Irish roots, Craicmore (Irish for 'Great Fun') enriches the tradition of joyful Celtic music."
- Flagstaff LIVE - Arts & Entertainment Weekly
"... with Nancy Johnston's impressively calm vocals leading the pack, Craicmore mixes Irish and Scots traditional songs and tunes with American contemporary folk elements. [This CD] finds a band creating their own identity - the results are impressive."
